What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 seems to mean different things to many people. Primarily though, it's about new user interfaces and ways to interact with content. Check out some current ideas about what Web 2.0 is. Wikipedia also has a Web 2.0 entry and describes some of the technologies involved & comparisons with Web 1.0.

I think if you get down to it you could compare the web to video games. For years the creativity was there, but the technology put a limit on the amount of realism that could be achieved (ie. Atari 2600 versus a PS2). Technology improved, game designers could make more realistic games with more intelligent AI.. but ultimately game designers are shooting for more realism -- making game environments indistinguishable from real life environments. Similarly, web applications are moving toward a higher level of realism, interactivity & intelligence.. trying to bridge the gap between PC applications & web applications.
