Why you shouldn't uncap your internet connection

In 2002, 13 residents of Toledo, Ohio had their homes searched and electronics confiscated by the FBI after it was discovered that they had uncapped their cable connections. 7 residents faced 5th degree felony charges punishable by 1 year in prison. The charges were eventually dropped, but is that extra speed really worth a visit from the FBI?
