 Just a heads up to anyone interested in learning some basic microcontroller / electronics. Microchip.com offers free samples of many different microchips that can be useful to the hobbyists. They have a lot of PICs to choose from, which are great all-around microcontrollers. I ordered some samples a few months back with the intention of building the stand-alone pong or tetris game from the schematics here, but I don't have a PIC programmer yet, so they've just been sitting in a box for now :)
