| When repairing electronics I used to think you could only replace a part with the same part. While this is sometimes true if the circuit is very dependent on the component for timing purposes, etc.. but often you can use a similar alternative part that has slightly different characteristics.
There's a neat cheat-sheet type of guide that Kerry Imming published -- Pinball - Electronic Component Substitutions. Don't be fooled by the title, most if not all of the substitution information will apply to electronics outside the realm of pinball circuit boards. I knew some of these substitutions but heck if I can remember them all the time =) It's great when someone creates cheat sheets like this for easy reference. Thanks Kerry! |
