VMWare Not To Blame For Router Issues
Posted by: AceBHound on Aug 26th, 2006 5:41 PM
As mentioned a few weeks ago, my desktop seemed to be dropping my wireless connection at random. I assumed it was caused by VMWare Server because shortly after installing that product, I couldn't keep a consistant connection. Turns out, after a few weeks of battling with it and shouting many obscenities.. it's an issue with the DHCP renewal on the Linksys router. I'm using Sveasoft firmware.. but a post on their forum revealed it was also an issue with the regular Linksys firmware (some bug they inherited). Sveasoft is working on fixing this in the Talisman firmware.. but who knows when that will be stable enough to release.

Solution? Set the IP address statically. My desktop's now been up several days and my faith in VMWare is restored =)
